Collect phone numbers and emails in Instagram DMs
Ask for a phone number or email, validate the response and review stored data for that flow.
Sections in this guide
One question, one answer
When collecting information, each step should ask for one thing only. For example, ask for the phone number first and the email in the next step.
- 1
Add a collect-information step.
- 2
Choose what you want to collect, such as a phone number or email.
- 3
Write a simple prompt, for example: “Send your phone number so we can contact you.”
- 4
Choose where the answer should be saved.
If the answer is invalid
You can require the answer to match an acceptable format. If the user sends invalid data, ask them to send a correct answer again.
Note:Keep the error message simple. Instead of “Invalid input,” say something like “Start the number with 09 and send it again.”
Where can I see saved information?
From the flows page, open the Data section for that flow. You can also view information saved for each person from the Data section on the contacts page.
Example: collect a consultation phone number
- 1
Choose the phone collection product and configure its page and trigger.
- 2
Explain the purpose: “If you would like a consultation call, please send your phone number”.
- 3
Configure the phone input type, prompt and invalid-input message.
- 4
Add a short acknowledgement. Promise a call time only if you can meet it.
- 5
From another account, send an invalid input followed by a valid number and inspect the flow’s Data section.
Note:Flow data and contact custom fields are separate stores. Check the destination configured for your scenario; saving to one does not imply automatic saving to the other.
Keep in mind:Ask only for necessary information, explain how it will be used and restrict contact data to authorized team members.
